Big bucks to fix, is he selling it cheap? Looks like a bad gel coat job, my boat is 30 years old and her gel coat is still fine. Actually those could be caused by stress now that I think about it. Better get some of our experts to chime in, this may be more than a gel coat problem. How are her stringers? her chain plates and such? does she have any fractures showing up in the bilge? or is it all deck related?

Erika

PS
she is a beautiful design

Walk away.

This looks like work done by cheap labour who haven't a clue what they're doing. Who knows how they laid up the structural laminates.

Comments: The boat needs clearly a big refit: paint and fairing need to be patchor redone.
The boat need anti fooling and a big tidy up.
The engine cable all engine hardware is 18months old.
The boat is ready to sail for costal cruise bit more preparation for ocean
Don't dream there is a minimum 50.000-100.000$AU to spend to put LELLA in good neck if not
more.

Price
200.000AU$ TAX not PAID
Shocking spelling skills but theres the numbers, closer to the $100k I'd guess

You'd have to be suspect of it wouldn't you.

Is it gelcoated or is it bogged and painted?
Gelcoat would add considerably to the weight at that thickness and being an epoxy boat (I would think) gelcoat is not going to stick that well either.

Schionning had an issue with one in the past (very early on) that had been left outside as a shell for a while, then bogged without proper prep.

It had bog crack out of it as well, though not as bad as this from memory

Some of the problems sound quite serious, and there could easily be more problems undisclosed by the seller. As the advertisement suggests, there would need to be at least $100,000.00 spent on the boat to transform it into something reliable. A boatbuilder I spoke to regarding the boat estimated more in the region of 200,000 - 250,000 aussie dollars to get it to a really nice boat (with an ultimate finish).

THIS IS THE EMAIL I RECEIVE FROM Schionning!!!!

Another email from the seller

I sail the boat form Bali to Brisbane,

The boat is sound, no crack no noise.
she needs a full gel coat- fairing on the upper structure.
The fibber glass is neat the wood is neat and no balsa but more cedar. Very stiff. probably one of stiffest Schionning I have come across but alas a bit heavy.
The boat is currently sailing and sea worthy.
Here in Australia the rate of wood fibber glass worker is 450-100 an hours. This doesn't allow a refurbish in Australia.
However in over country, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand there is plenty of yard capable.

The is no crack, but lots of hand work! Its all about man power and the time you are prepare to put in.

regards

Wait for your opinions all ....

Except for all the crack in fairing?

If its cedar it should have been done in epoxy
If its not done in epoxy, run away.
If its done in epoxy, gelcoat (polyester) wont stick

but alas a bit heavy.
judging by the thickness of the gelcoat??, that could be where the extra weight has come from.
Cedar is heavier than Balsa, but the glass layup should have been lighter negating some of the weight discrepancy

Since when have "Fibber" glass workers in Oz been getting $100/hour
I can still get them for $17 to $30 (a fancy yard with shed may well charge those numbers)
Is this guy sure he is from Oz

Yes, we can see how "capable" they have been on this build, but, I daresay their are better yards than the one where it was built.

I would still be worried, very very worried

And another email

The biggest issue with the boat is finish:
the use talk powder in the fairing not micro sphere. Then they made the boat at the time of the Bali bombing, so every thing was frozen for 10 month at the stage of the finish.
Been made in Bali that mean that the epoxy started to be old hence why its not sticking so well.

Can you see a pattern?

Sounds like you need someone to fly up for a look who has an idea about multihull construction.

I am in Brisbane Australia

This boat would be a liability even if it were free! I'd value it at the depreciated rates for engines, rigging, spares and electrics LESS the cost to cut up and scrap the hull.

This is a seriously badly built boat. There's obviously been zero quality control - if they can't do the cosmetics right how do you figure they've managed the things you can't see or assess?

Personally I would not touch it, if that was the level of work you can see I would hate to see what you cannot see. For me I must be able to trust my boat in bad conditions, with that I will always have a big question in the back of my mind and would never feel at ease with the boat and therefore never be happy with it.
