This is a new install of a new Schaefer
roller furler 2100 going from hanked on
sails to
roller furling.
The swage on the bottom of my 5/16 forestay is interfering with the
aluminum insert (bearing on the stay) inside the foil.
Directions say to start install with turnbuckle fully closed. No
interference.
Then to install the Sta Lok instruction say to open turnbuckle fully. Now I interfere.
Seems like I have two options:
1. Hand file the top two inches of the swage to a slightly small diameter, maybe take 0.050 to 0.100 inch off, or
2. Drill out the stainless pop rivets and expose the
aluminum stay bearing and then I should be able to cut off 2 inches of the bottom of the 24 inch or so extrusion inside the foil.
Question: what is my best option or is there another approach and if I exercise either option above:
Option 1: Will this make the 6" or so long swage too weak? Doesn't seem like it would however it will then have a close fit inside the aluminum bearing during operation.
Option 2: What kind of trouble do I get in drilling out pop rivets in aluminum extrusions?
