Sayes Windvane? Any thoughts out there?

My local marine consignment store has a sayes windvane in good shape for sale at a pretty reasonable price.....I have an old sparkman and stevens stevens desgin Chris Craft Apache --sloop rig with long overhangs, around a 10.5 foot beam, from what I read the real advantage of the sayes was that it was particularly good for ketches, or boats where a monitor wouldn't fit -- anyone have any thoughts on their performance? I know they don't have an auxillary rudder but they also keep me from steering

Anyone in the peanut gallery have any thoughts?
