Rudder Repair

I have a Santana quarter ton 25' keelboat. My wood transom hung rudder was split by someone moving their boat in the yard. Looking for ideas on repairing it. I thought of getting 8 inch screws to reattach the broken end then using a fiberglass wrap to seal the repaired section. it is the lower right hand corner/tip, a section about 3 inches wide by 18 inches tall.

Any ideas?...............thanks, santana25
