We are looking for information of
rudder post
repairs for our
Gulfstar Hirsh. We have had the
bronze bearing remade and fiberglassed in place. Two years ago, it started rocking again. This time a plastic lower bearing made for the
rudder post and the
fiberglass supports and
fiberglass around the metal bearing was reinforced. At that time we were at St. Johns
Boat Yard in
Jacksonville, with the
work done by Jim Hendrick of MCS Mobile
Marine. We have written him about the
repair not holding up, but have not had a reply to date. The wobble has returned and the fiberglass that was reinforcing the rudder is worn away. We had read about a sister
boat called Sunpenny that "Custom made top rudder bearing that prevents the rudder from wobbling. 34"x36"
steel plate with 6"brass bearing bolted to the I-beam under the bed". Is anyone familiar with this, we would love a picture! Any other suggestions?
