Rub Rails: To Seal or Not to Seal ?

After many years, plastic rub rail housings may not be perfectly flush with the hull. Is there wisdom to seal the upper and lower edges of the rail where it abuts the hull for a better installation? If so, what would you use for a thin bead of sealant? All comments would be appreciated. Best, Ron

I can't think of anything that would hold. Why would you want to seal it? It's just a bumper. If you have a leak, don't look to the rub rail to fix it.

Raku, no leaks. I'm going to paint the plastic portion this year and thought it might provide a cleaner, monocoque construction. Best, Ron

My rub rail is wood... it bolts through the hull and holds the deck on...
definitely leaks...
which is why its off and I'm fitting a new one... it'll be well bedded with Sika...
