Rolling Blinds on Hatches

I know this is a long-shot but I have been trying to source these roll-up, spring loaded blinds that were fit onto our 1993 Nautor Swan. Apparently the company that makes them has gone out of business some time ago. They are blue and white, cylindrical when rolled up and fit onto small brackets which are hidden inside the headliners. Most of them are sized to fit our 38 cm hatches and all the original ones are dead or dying. Does anyone have an idea of where I could find these or offer an alternative solution? Thank you.

Re: Rolling Blinds on Hatches

They could work, yes, but the unique thing about the originals is that the cartriges are captive (inside the headliners). When the blind is open the only thing you see are the handle/tab used to pull it out. But it's starting to look like we might have to change over to something more like those...

Re: Rolling Blinds on Hatches

I have a question about your Swan. I own a Columbia 41 and the cockpit layout looks similar. I would like to have a dodger made but no one will fabricate it unless they already have a pattern - which of course they don't. I am thinking a Swan 43 pattern would work. Could you email me the port to starbard dimension as measured to the outside of the fiberglass lip. Also the fore and aft dimension. The ridge on my Columbia is horse shoe shaped and rund over the companion way hatch cover.

Re: Rolling Blinds on Hatches

Hmmm- interesting that you can't get someone to build you a dodger. Not difficult for any competent canvas shop. In the past week I have assisted our sailmaker (I am just the tape holder) to build a 1" tubing framework, and cover it, and fit it.
Sailrite has a few good videos on how to do it. Good luck.

Re: Rolling Blinds on Hatches

We had complete canvas work done on our '83 Bristol 35.5 this past year. Canvas Creations in Annapolis, MD did a fantastic job in design and construction of the dodger, bimini, connector, hatch and sail covers. Dan Wood is the owner and will work directly with you to get the exact design you want. He is also very affordable! You won't find any better.

Thumbs up Re: Rolling Blinds on Hatches

I would be happy to send you the dimensions of our dodger but I think ours is too large, being from a swan 77 and not 43. Good luck with your dodger plans though!
