Re: Roller furling swivel help

I have to applaud you for you help on this, I am so pleased that someone from halfway round the globe is helping me when people in this country are not interested unless I am buying a whole new system. Many thanks,

I will go back to the mast and get another picture as I think it was 1.7cm and I will get the ID of the tube for you too.

Many thanks

Re: Roller furling swivel help

Converted, I get the dimensions (on bushing) as 20.63 x 29.5 mm of course, just used tape measure...funny, I can think in mm while cm is a duh...We need to agree on length of inner tube as well as there are spirolox retaining rings to hold it in place. There is some concern as to whether you have "button lock" or "interlock" type extrusions as to this part working. If this is the "unobtanium" part...I need to give my friend a case of beer for it...if not I need to give it back...this is for a Hood model 2535. Cheers!

Re: Roller furling swivel help

Ok,

I have just been back over to the boat and taken more pics with a decent camera. the one with the ID needs to add 10mm due to the viernia width.

Re: Roller furling swivel help

Best I can do is go back to rigger. Looks to me that the bushing/extrusion would fit perfectly, while the bushing OD...50.8 and the swivel tube ID at best is +/- 45/46/47/48...just won't go. There was a tube on the bushing at the riggers, that might take up for the length difference. I am not giving up hope...have to run that way Mon./Tue. Anyway...cheers! Good work!

Re: Roller furling swivel help

You my friend are a gentleman thank you,

If I cant get the bushing to fit this swivel then do you think there may be a swivel to fit the extrusion? I am just thinking of alternative options here.

Re: Roller furling swivel help

Pompanette as mentioned in another post, has three models of complete new swivels listed on their website ranging from $320-550. Will require further inquiry, which is now possible with your new photo's. First I will return to local rigger, armed with new info and dig some more to determine exact model you have. The owner of the shop did make mention of having to get some models of bushing made at a machine shop. Cheers!

Roller furling swivel help

I had a good visit with riggers...let me paw through bins, no luck on finding proper bushing, however learned a great deal. Model #2535, which you have, uses the "bb" extrusion...the same extrusion is used on the Seafurl 2. In other words a Seafurl 2 swivel assembly will work directly on a Seafurl Model #2535 extrusion. However internal parts are not interchangeable, the swivel bushings and swivel tube, have a different O.D./I.D. Re-machining the Seafurl 2 bushing is not an option...just not enough material on molded part...
Choices...

A) I think the rigger here may have enough spare swivel parts to build a Seafurl 2 swivel and has a new bushing. I did not ask price, I would hope less than $100 for all. With shipping may add up close to choice B) if you can haggle...still several "if's"... ( I mentioned to the shop owner that you were just starting out...he was very much in favor of helping you out..."We have to help him along then..."

B) Check to see if you can get a reduced price on the unit from your previous posting...the swivel would work directly and you would have spare luff extrusions if one got mangled, plus an assortment of other parts. ( Probably the most cost effective)

C) machine a bushing from 2" diameter Nylatron (NSM?) (~$40?/ foot here) material plus 60-90 minutes machining time. If you wish to have it done there, I can ship the damaged bushing for a machining reference, part free, ~$35 postage.

Cheers!
