Reupholster or purchase new cushions?

Which do you think is a better option? Recently purchased a 1980 Oday 28 and the wifey doesn't like the cushion fabric design, they are also a little dingy and smelly. Would it be more cost effective to purchase new cushions or reupholster? The foam seems fine and is comfy. Would be replacing 3 cushions on each "couch", the v-berth cushions and quarter berth cushion. Thanks for the advice!

The foam itself will likely have absorbed some of the odors from the fabric. I suspect the fabric and stitching will make up the bulk of your purchase, so I favour replacing the whole works, using good quality high-density foam. Good luck.

The cushions that we bought looked alright and the foam felt fine. It only took a single cut of the fabric to expose the disaster that existed on the foam. The mildew problem was extensive where we originally thought there wasn't one.

Bottom line, making new cushions is cheap. Buying new cushions is less cheap. Using someone's old cushions as your own is free, but rather dirty.

If the foam is not smelly( a couple of days in the sun and breeze do wonders) or to badly stained, reuse them! over the years Ive tossed a few and reused a bunch of them ! I always sew a cover from sheet material first, then make new covers with what ever we choose for material and color. its reall easy if ya sew! and it always makes things a little better and brighter!! Just our two cents
