Smile Restoring Curlew III, a Falmouth 6 Ton Pilot

Just thought I'd share some pictures from a project I'm working on!

This is Curlew III. Built in 1968, designed by Rodney Warrington Smythe of Falmouth. I got her a few months ago. She was in pretty good condition, but just needed a bit of TLC. Here's her at the beginning:

I started off by taking off that ugly fibreglass on her sides, and replacing it with cetol marine lite. It was a good thing I did, because I VERY narrowly escaped having rotten cabins! The fibreglass had cracked and water was getting in to the wood beneath. But, by an incredible stroke of luck, the water had just dampened things a bit and did no damage. I let it dry out and it was all good.

Next was to scrape and sand the decks

And then add some cetol natural teak on the decks (yes that's me in the photo –– younger ladies can love wooden boats too!)

And finally some painting...

And ta-da!!

Quite the before and after, hey?

Anyway, I'll post more pictures as they come around! I'm happy to get suggestions from people concerning products or other experiences they've had with this kind of work! I'm new to the boat world and I'm loving it

Maya

What happened to the Bowsprit??? Lovely boat. Admire the labor keeping a beauty like her looking like a teenager.

Lovely work, and nice to see some love put into a classic.

How is the wet grip on deck with the Cetol?
