repurpose a fridge?

I haven't seen this particular refridgerator question- would it be feasible to take a regular house hold fridge- take the guts out ( compressor etc.) fill all that in with closed cell expanding foam, wrap it in blue board or the airogell stuff and lay it on it's back and build it in to use as a fridge on board? I would remove the shelves on the door and build that up more. I"m thinking that the insulation already there would give me a good start and the interior is already shaped etc. Is this a stupid idea or worth pursuing?

I wouldn't think the steel would last long in the salt environment. Perhaps it would work on the Great Lakes.

Re: repurpose a fridge?

I was wondering about that and thinking stainless steel but that is probably just the doors. We have a fridge and freezers in the garage down at the beach, the old scratched up one is a bit rusty but it's 20+ years old, the newer one that we didn't let get scratch up by not setting anything on it has not rusted. I didn't know if since the metal would be protected by the insulation if it would still be an issue.

It really is amazing where the salt water can reach, even places that you'd think would be protected.
