Replacing the wooden forehatch

Has anybody replaced the forehatch on their Fortune 30?

We're looking to replace Yofy's wooden forehatch with a new aluminum one. So far we haven't been able to find any hatches that match the dimensions. I have seen pictures of Fortune 30's that have replaced the hatch, so there must be a supplier somewhere.

Any ideas?

Manny

Re: Replacing the wooden forehatch

If the operning is an odd size, you may have to choose to either:
Customize the opening to fit a current, OEM hatch, or
Have a custom made hatch built to mate up with the opening

Knock on wood, I usually vote for/choose the former. That way, in theory at least, you can get spare parts, down the road. Especially if you use something pretty long standing, & universal. Like a Lewmar Ocean model, for example.
But pics of things, along with dimensions & measurements would help a lot. Especially if the current setup has custom type features. Like a breakwater already in place for the current hatch, & or tracks for a storm cover for your current hatch.

Albeit, given that the current hatch is wooden, it shouldn't be too tough to reproduce.

You might contact Philbrook's Boatyard Ltd, who build some of the Fortune 30's.

Re: Replacing the wooden forehatch

uncivilized, yes we have thought about customizing the opening to fit. It is an option but we were hoping to hear from other Fortune 30 owners to see if they found an existing aluminum hatch that would fit. If not we will look at how we can adjust the opening to fit other hatches.

GordMay, we have contacted Philbrook's Boatyard in the past concerning other details on the Fortune 30. Unfortunately there is no one left who worked on the Fortune 30's, the molds are long gone and they can't really help. Nice people, just aren't able to help. But it was a good idea
