Replacing cabin sole

My '82 Newport 41 was "on the hard" for 15 yrs. unattended. Ended up with water/diesel mix (leaking fuel tank) resulting in destroyed cabin sole as well as oil stain 8" up on all the furniture. Have rebuilt fuel tank, and relaid the underlayment for the sole with marine plywood. Since teak and holly sheets are 1. very expensive 2. the veneer is so thin as to be ridiculous 3. the foreward sections have a lot of bend and a step up to contend with. Soooo, I am considering using a new HD vinyl in wood pattern (like cherry or mahogany) and the new styles even have slightly raised wood grain (looked great in my doctors office) !! Question: has anyone tried using this for a sole ?? Any recommendations ??

Re: Replacing cabin sole

My boat is all vinyl flooring, no problems. However I will be tearing ot the floor to build an integral watertank in the bilge and will be going the same HD viinyl flooring way too. My concern is that the wood plank pattern on the 12' wide sheets of viny flooring would run athwarthships rather than fore-aft, I think

Re: Replacing cabin sole

Having looked at many samples of fake-looking vinyl flooring, I ended up going with Amtico flooring. It's not cheap but I think it looks great, it's an easy DIY project and it's been extremely hard wearing.

Re: Replacing cabin sole

Really nice! How did you find a retailer? Company looks to be based in the UK.
