Removing Carpet Glue?

I pulled up the carpet in my main salon today. There is still a good amount of adhesive residue left behind and also some of the underside of the carpet itself.
What is the best/easiest way to remove this stuff?
I was thinking of a heat gun. Any other solutions?

Re: Removing Carpet Glue?

Having been a flooring contractor for more than 25 yrs I feel that I am able to answer this question with one of many correct answers...Naptha(charcol lighter fluid) will remove latex adhesive from just about any surface without damage..If it is not installed with latex adhesive it may still work but may just reactivate the old adhesive and then you have to scrap the goo up with a putty knife with a blunt edge and then wipe clean with a damp rag that has been dampend with naptha or kerosine...if you use charcol lighter fluid make sure it contains naptha as some do not and will leave a oily residue that has to evaporate before you can use another adhesive..(Bob and Connies idea should work also...good luck..DVC

Re: Removing Carpet Glue?

Thanks for the helpful hints folks.
I tried a heat gun and it worked really well if I was going to re-carpet, but I am not. Also the existing corners of the plywood are damaged and would take a while to repair strong enough for my needs. Since I am always on limited time, I figure I can cut new plywoood faster than I could clean and repair the existing ply pieces. I will be gluing Teak and Holly plywood down on top of the new ply.
