Refurbing / Refitting an Older boat - Advice and Ideas

Just came across nautical themed fittings.....furniture made from old mines (yes, bang-type sea mines). The fireplaces and fishtanks look particularly cool:

please at least use epoxy housepaint....you have wood boat??? 1959=either way , wood or heavy fg....please post pix.

Mines 47yro! I pulled my boat for a 3mnth cheap & dirty fix.
Stopped counting at 100k later. Hard space rent = 30k.
But this summer it is going to splash even if it is painted in house paint!

There's not much left thats 47yro looks like a new boat

You must be joking there is no way you would put all that work into it to just a crap paint job?

I havn't read this entire thread - but here is a piece of advice given to me by a 2 time circumnavigator.

Take everything in the boat apart (completely! down to the atoms) and put it back together again before you sail. Better yet - take it all apart twice. You can be damn sure that somewhere on a circumnavigation, almost everything will fail once. And you can be sure it will happen somewhere where there is no boatyard. You just have to be able to fix it yourself.

Did you think I had forgotten all of you? I didn't. I have been busy with my little boat project. You will be very proud of me, I am anyway. With no experience at any of this I have taken my little boat project, which turned into a trailer project first, and we are now on the water.

First, the trailer. Whoever worked on it last was even less a mechanic than I am. They put the wrong size bearing in, which totally chewed up the race. When all said and done I ended up replacing the bearings, hub, wheels, new tires, marine grease instead of the automotive grease they were using, and put on buddy bearings. And I did it myself! Yeah me. Then there was the title issue... there wasn't any, and the previous owner lived 5 hours away. Well, I got that taken care of too.

Then I went to work on the boat. Again another proud moment for me, this time with pictures. I took some sage advice and opted to oil the wood instead of varnishing it. I am not done, but the worst is looking much better.
