Refrig refit

**Warning, dumb question of the day**

We have a refrig box that is 5.3cuft and are replacing the internals (was engine driven) to a 12V system.

What would happen if we installed a system for up to 15cuft in a 5.3cuft box? Would it run 1/3 the time and be more efficient?

Would you have a refrigerator box that was 100% freezer with no other refrigeration?

Is it complete overkill, even though we're cruising the tropics?

Getting a system that's rated for UP TO 5.3cuft seems like going right to the max and it will run all the time or not keep food a steady temp.

Re: Refrig refit

That isn't a dumb question at all.

I'm guessing that you are deciding whether your 12v system will be built around the smaller Danfoss DB35 compressor or the larger DB50 compressor. Am I on the mark?

We had exactly this problem and we chose to install the larger compressor on our system, because what we had was at the top end of the smaller compressors recommended cooling volume.

I'm no certainly expert and so I may be completely wrong, but my (limited) understanding is that the more powerful system will run for less time, but not 1/3 of the time. Will it be more efficient? Hmm, depends how you define efficiency.

Why not just make a freezer?
