Re: Refitting a Compass 47

We have also removed the headliner in the main salon, galley, nav. station, and third stateroom. As soon as we splash and have the motor done, we will focus our efforts on finishing the gelcoat and the rest of the varnish. After that the rig will get an overhaul and we will go sailing.

Re: Refitting a Compass 47

We have the raw water and most of the fuel system in place. I decided to let the yard handle the saildrive, because we paid for it. We decided on 3 coats of epoxy barrier coat followed by 3 coats of sea hawk smart solution. The prop is ready to go on and just needs the anti fouling paint. Our engines harness was a bit short, so I am having beta send me a longer one.

Re: Refitting a Compass 47

Well the boat is in the water and here are the projects leading up to it:

We installed the panel, fixed, cleaned and reinstalled throttle with new cables. We connected motor and did all the wiring. Installed fairing pad and painted the saildrive leg ( actually the yard did the saildrive painting, as it was part of the bottom job). The saildrive and surrounding area were prepped with three coats of epoxy barrier coat and then Sea Hawk Smart Solution, a no metal paint. The 2 blade Max Prop did not want to slide on so instead we purchased a fixed 3 blade Volvo prop. We painted that with a primer and some Trilux. I am interested to see how the bottom paints work. Vivid on the Hull, Smart Solution on the saildrive, and Trilux on the prop. We are installing a small day tank and when that is done we should be under way for some sea trials.

Re: Refitting a Compass 47

I also did some priming and painting in the forepeak and started varnishing the headliner in the garage. ( please don't comment on the garage )

Check out the anchor....Manson 60, which was inherited from my dad. A bit small for my taste, but will serve as an excellent anchor for now.

Thanks! I will say that I am envious of the whale slaying rudder/skeg set up.

Re: Refitting a Compass 47

The motor is running. The boat's two fuel tanks are a bit nasty and cleaning would require installing inspection ports, so in the meantime we just mounted a 15 gallon day tank. The motor runs great and is so smooth. Once we got a charge on the battery the motor started right up. Only problem is that our muffler is leaking. I guess I will have to order a new one. The cost of the little odds and ends are killing my bank account.

Here is a little video that Denise took with her phone.

Moved the boat today under her own power. Only went a 1/4 mile, but it was great. Wow what a great motor so smooth and plenty of power. We are super pumped.
Today was a great day.
