You've done a very nice job on your boat! Been there and done that, means I know how much hard work goes into such a project.

I know I'm late on this for your project , sorry I just joined here.

Instead of sanding anything wood, have you ever considered the use of a very strong paint remover? This takes maybe 1/10th of the time compared to sanding, does not remove any wood and leaves a perfectly paint prepared surface. Let's not even mention the mess/powder/cleaning sanding leaves behind.
After the old paint has been removed all it takes is steel wool to clean the surface, voilà.
Once I discovered ( by case ) that paint remover can be used on wood, I've used this alternative in several projects with I would dare to say better results that sanding.

Maybe this will help someone else in their future projects?

Hey thanks for the tip ! The problem with the interior was that the previous owner sanded a lot of the interior and stained the wood. It was quite the mess and needed a healthy sanding.

Even with the stained wood from previous sanding, I would've used paint remover first and only after that have eventually sanded the wood. It's amazing what a paint remover can do to stained wood! Been there, done that...

Yes, your long hours of work show in a beautiful below-decks. We have a friend who bought a Compass 47 some years back now, and we went with him on his first sail on the boat. You are not going to be disappointed, she sailed beautifully, close-winded and responsive.

every time I have a boat without a mast. I get comments like "hey someone stole your mast" or "where do the sails go" lol. I have received 3 of those comments in the 4 hours I was at the boat today.

Well here is the boat without mast. Today I gave the boat a scrub on the deck and the port hull.

Hello, The mast work is getting underway. I have stripped the mast of most of the cleats, radar, and the masthead gear. The rigging is pulled, labeled and coiled. I decided not to build the new shrouds myself and will be having it done by the pros. I figure one or two errors could make up the cost savings. Working with the crew from SSMR here in St. Petersburg is ALWAYS a pleasure. These guys are the best period. I will do the lifelines though. Tomorrow, I will finish stripping the mast. Here are a few pics.

On Christmas day, on our way home from a family visit we were able to get the boat out on the bay and have a little run. Everything seemed pretty good. She seems to power very nicely. At 1500 rpms we were at 7.5 kts and at 2000 rpms we were around 8.5 kts. This is great for me considering my last boat had a 14hp diesel and would max out around 6 kts. It had been a while since I had moved a boat this big and was a bit nervous getting her into the slip, but it wasn't too bad. She backed up pretty decently too.All in all, a great hour on the water.

Speaking of my old S&S34, I am in the actual same slip as I was 10 years ago in my old boat. It seems fitting. Lol.
