I find myself in possession of a 37'
aluminum sloop that is in desperate need of a proper re-fit. Unfortunately, the vessel, which is in
Japan at the moment, finds itself in a country that doesn't really have a clue about how to do this. So... I am thinking about sailing/motoring it to
China or
Taiwan or possibly the
Philippines. While I was browsing yatchhub the other day, I noticed a factory in Cebu that was building a Mumby 48
aluminum cat that seems to have the required expertise and
equipment, at least with respect to aluminum welding.
I'm curious if anyone has had any experience getting refits done in this part of the world.
The
interior in completely stripped out except for the chart table,
electric panel,
engine and
head.
Here's a short list of
work to be done:
- hard stand
- tear out remaining
interior stations,
plumbing and
wiring
- sandblast the interior to bare aluminum
- modest amount of aluminum welding and fabrication
work (want to close up the
boat as much as possible)
- relocate
engine (currently over the keel) and establish new
propeller shaft location)
- establish
deck step (currently
keel stepped) for new
mast and
rigging
-
epoxy paint the interior
-
plumbing and
wiring
- re-bed
deck fittings
- lay down
insulation and interior surfaces
- carpentry and joinery and other misc interior finishing
- exterior welding (davit and
bimini work)
- step and rig
mast
I have a 20' ISO container of tools and materials and supplies that can be shipped fairly easily.
Any ideas about who/where I might be able to get some help?
