If you are putting in a barrier near the evaporator to make a cold area, does it need to be an insulator say 2" thick or just thin metal?
Another question, what is the safest way of putting a 90deg bend in a flat evaporator? The one I have is 8" wide.

Use an insulated divider with a mechanically/thermostatically controlled spill-over valve.

Bend the evaporator around a piece of PVC pipe ~4" diameter. Avoid high point loading while bending it.

Make sure you heat the evaporator to about 200 degrees with a heat gun before you bend it or the paint will crack.

Also, 2" is the recommended thickness for the insulated partition between sections on a spill-over unit.

The evaporator is pre-charged. Can you heat a pre-charged evaporator?

Yes. We just did the same with a 30" x 12" evap unit.... two bends were made using a heat gun and 3" PVC pipe. It's what Vitrifirgio recommends for their units.

The guy in the instructions must have tough skin to be bending 200 degree metal without any gloves !

The deed is done. No cracked paint or the sound of hissing freon. I didn't go to 200 but warm to the touch. Thanks.
