Re-Plating Winches

I have 4 Barlow winches that show signs of blistering (very small) where is the best place to have them replated?

Arco winches (Australia based but significant presence in the US) carry replacement parts and spares for Barlow. Maybe they can do or advise. Google them.

Re: Re-Plating Winches

Wherever you get the plating done, be sure that they don't polish off the knurling or other "gripping" surfaces on the drums. This actually happened on my 6 Barient cockpit winches... they polished them to a mirror finish. Looks really good, but the coefficient of friction is way too low and severely inhibits normal usage. Not funny...

Cheers,

Jim

Arco Australia turned my Barlow 35's into self tailors and replated them as well. Talk to Bruno

Re: Re-Plating Winches

Astrid, I'm in southern Wisconsin. But have no problem shipping anywhere. My buddy works at Harken just down the road. I asked him for a source with no reply as of yet. I avoid pushing him since he treats me well.

Wisconsin Plating Works in Racine has been around since 1919 and has a good reputation. You might give them a try:

Commercial and Industrial metal finishing by Wisconsin Plating Works Racine, Wisconsin

or you can check out the following list to see if you can find one near you:
