Re-Bedding Ports

I'm sure there's been other threads on this but I have to re-bed all the ports on my newly acquired new/old boat. It has a mix of fixed and opening ports with the fixed windows having stainless frames and the opening ports being bronze.
My best luck in the past has been using butyl rubber tape of the type used on RV's and mobile homes.
Any suggestions on any other ways to do it that might work better?
As in any newly acquired used boat you buy just about every port leaks, it's wreaking havoc on the interior teak, so they're all coming out with two hatches being sent to be rebuilt.

Re: Re-Bedding Ports

Butyl is thought to be the best, here is a great write up about bedding hardware and ports. I've had trouble with butyl (3M) in the past bleeding in very hot sun. I think it was MY mistake, maybe using too much tape and not trimming properly. So I like the dreaded 5200 that just about every knowledgable person will tell you to avoid. But I like it, it works great for me, so that is why I'm mentioning it .

Link to great thread about bedding with butyl and such.

Re: Re-Bedding Ports

Butyl is fine. In fact it is great.

Just make sure you buy the good stuff.
