Question, questions, always these niggling questions

I am replacing the three running navigation lights with some LED's. I replaced the bulbs in the stock lights last year but they do make some radio noise, plus the starboard is more blue than green even with a green LED. Anyway the stock lights are deck mounted and seem to be okay. for some reason I am torn between deck mount and hull mount (Horizontal or vertical, they are different units), I have no idea why. Anybody have a strong opinion on why one is better than the other?

I have already read that thread. Great thread too. But it does not discuss location and on the hull verses location on the deck
