I believe the kerosene is simply the heat source for the evaporator. The old evaporator fridges used ammonia as the cooling medium. I'm not sure what they use nowadays.

Alcohol could be used as both a heat source and a cooling medium but it would be extremely inefficient and I don't believe the in box temperature would get much below freezing.

Under 2 gal a week is pretty good I would think. We used a 10 lbs of propane for a week.

Hello all, especially ORIGO users
Looking for alcohol stoves at Google I found this vid - I think it will be interesting for all ORIGO users:

The most interesting part starts at 2:35. I wonder if the manufacturer could sell those lids separately as an improvement to already sold ORIGO stoves...
