Re: Problem with Perkins 4.108 Fuel Pump

I do not mind at all..morning of 8/25 before 11 est. 423 8761246 (verizon cell). I am not sure I can help you since I have never been inside that pump myself. I had participated in that referenced thread but I was not the one to do the repair...I just have had the same leaking issue. But if I can help in some way, I am available to chat.

cburger; great looking engine and thanks for the update. How is the engine running now? Any problems or gotchas people should look out for when they are doing this? Where did you order the kit from? Thanks

Re: Problem with Perkins 4.108 Fuel Pump

The kit came from Delphi Diesel Systems the maker of the pump. The govenor was removed from the injection pump without having to remove the heat exchanger, just disconnected a couple of fuel lines in the proximity of the govenor, four hours to remove a little over an hour to reinstall. Watch the components in the antistall valve as the sprin and plug have to be put back in exactly as they are removed, (Duh).

Re: Problem with Perkins 4.108 Fuel Pump

4108 Governor problem.
Would any body know how the punger in the governor should be adjusted?
The large washer below the springs has a 2.5mm gap to the seat. I wonder if the Springs need stretching or replacing?
The motor runs erratically when hot on low revs, at around 1200rpm.
Could the incorrect adjustment of these springs cause my problem?

I've replaces all the "o" rings, no change.

Re: Problem with Perkins 4.108 Fuel Pump

The CAV fuel injection pump for my 1984 Perkins 4.108 lowline was manufactured by Delphi here in the United States. My particular pump is model # 3247F190.
The seal kit is part # 7135 114 and provides all the required seals, gaskets etc. that would be required for a complete Injection pump overhaul. The cost of the kit was about $27.00 and was purchased from DW Diesel in N.Y., Tel:518 437 1300.

The replacement of the “O” rings, (2 on the throttle shaft and 1 on the kill shaft) and governor base gasket stopped the leaks coming from the hydraulic governor. With the exception of loosening a couple of fuel lines that where near the governor body, disconnection of the throttle linkage and kill cable, no major components, (Heat exchanger), had to be removed from the motor in order to complete this process. 2 small bolts at the base of the governor secure it to the top of the injector pump, a small ¼” box wrench is all I used to loosen.

There is no question this is a tedious repair as you can only turn the box wrench maybe a quarter turn at a time. Approximately 4hours for removal, 1 hour for reinstallation. Tons of dollars saved doing it yourself vs. using a mechanic.
