port supply at west marine

I would like to get wholesale accounts with West Marine , Marysville marine and others. What is required to open accounts? Right now I would like to get into Marysville the most.

Gunner, I have those accounts with Marysville and with Jamestown Dist. I had to fax the request on my company letterhead and include a copy of my Indiana Sales Tax Certificate. They said that I had to prove that I was a legitimate business to have an account with them and get things at wholesale prices.

That was all? Did they ask about your relationship with boats and what you expected to spend each month?

I've had a Port supply acct for a few years now and it was a pain to get it back then since I started out as a mobile repair bus. They wanted pictures of my place of bus. and copies of forms of advertising. they did want to know what I expected to spend, I think the min. was 1500/yr. after a few months of phone calls and jumping through hoops they reluctantley set me up. I would recomend setting up a land and sea acct as well there prices are sometimes much better than ps
From what I hear a PS acct has become even more difficult to get

Back in '92 all I needed to do was to tell the WM store manager than I was setting up a boat for going cruising. That was the South San Francisco WM, the manager was an x-cruiser and I was dumpin' a lot of cash/day buyin boat parts at the time. Maybe that helped.
