Port Sealant Puzzle

We are in the process of rebedding a leaky Beckson opening port. With the port out we are left with a very hard rubber former seal that is quite determined to stay put. It reminds me of truck bed liner.

Does anyone have a guess what this is and is there an easier way to remove it than manual scrape or cut and peel. Rubbing alcohol and mineral spirits don't seem to touch it. (Tested on remnants)

Probably just have to do it the manual way. But alcohol and mineral spirits are pretty weak. Try some acetone. Problem with that is that it is so volatile it evaporates before it softens the material. It is hard to keep the stuff wet.

Is it hard or rubbery? If hard, maybe a paint stripper would work.

Whatever it is if you can duplicate it on the install it should be pretty leak free.

S2 used Dow 700 industrial grade silicone caulk on some ports. I think Beckson states to use silicone caulk.

You might try something like DeBond Uses for Marineformula

I had read that but haven't been around Dpw 700 to know what it looks like. This is definitely a replaced hatch by a PO who may have used the same. I don't know.

It is rubbery and stuck pretty good. I'm used to silicone behaving like a rubber band.

Warm it with a heat gun or carefully with s torch and scrape. Looks like butyl but... Could be something else.
