Perspex Window Tinting

I am reticent to start covering my windows with Sunbrella because of the cost but more importantly I just finished fixing the damage from the leaking push tab screw holes that were used for a mesh cover.

I have spoken to a couple of auto window tinters but no one will quote on tinting my windows which I think are perspex. They say that reflective tint will not take.

What other material other than perspex could they be and how do you work out what they are. They are not glass and are crazed. I like the idea of an internal covering to decrease heat and provide some semblance of privacy. Has anyone tinted their cabin windows?

I looked at the sexy windows thread but I don't think that answered my queries.
any advice would be appreciated.

Cant you replace the perspex with safety glass which will also take the tint film?

This is what I used. PolyGard | Film Pacific

It is made for use on acrylics and polycarbonates. It is VERY effective at keeping out heat. Installation is challenging, it is very sticky.

I used it on the outside of clear acrylic - the theory being that the acrylic won't get hot, so won't expand and contract, eventually shearing the seals.

It seems to work, in as much as the windows certainly don't get anywhere near as hot as the tinted perspex in my hatches does.

Downside is, (apart from the price) it's like a one-way mirror. At night, if it's darker outside than inside, you can't see out.

Looks sexy too IMO.

I used the 3M film. It is both UV reflective and will hold the window togwther should it break. It is used in houses in Florida for hurricane protection. It is thicker than auto film . Costme about $500 dollars for installation on my big ports - see avitar.
