Perkins 4-108 Impeller replacement (need part #)

Friends, I have a new boat that has a Perkins 4-108. I would really appreciate it if someone could point me to the right part # so that I can order a spare impeller. Thank a bunch ~ Dave

The impeller part number is dependent on the type of water pump">raw water pump you have not the engine type. As there are several different versions of 4.108 engines, and as over the years the pump may have been changed it would be helpful if you listed the type of pump and pump model number which should be stamped on the body of the pump. Probably you will be able to get a suitable replacement that is not made by Perkins. However, Trans Atlantic Diesel in Virginia is a good place for Perkins parts. Places like Defender and other chandlers online sell impellers. Somewhere on this forum is a link to a place that sells longer life impellers but they are more expensive. I have found that Google works better when searching this forum than the CF search engine.
Welcome to the forum! It is a great resource and most folks are friendly.

The "longer life" impellors don't seem to be, just somewhat more costly than others. And, given an impellors' relatively low cost in general, one can usually find what one needs at West Marine, which seems to carry a reasonably broad range of sizes. As a practical matter, one is well advised to change one's impellor at least annualy to ensure the pump's performance when needed. I have followed this practice since the early '70's and have never had a problem with an impellor shedding it's vanes, even under hard, prolonged use.

FWIW...

I certainly agree that they should be changed at least once a year. I change ours if it has been more than 10 months and we are going on a major passage as it's just one less thing to worry about with a 27 year old engine.

Thanks for the thoughts on this. I really appreciate this collective resource!

Will look for the pump info next time I am at the boat.
