Painting over factory installed non-skid

I have a 1984 Sea Sprite 30. The original non-skid is a rubberized material that was adhered directly to the gelcoat. The decks need to be painted but the non-skid is not easily removed and in fact it is great non-skid so I don't want to remove it. I am wondering if I can paint right over it. Anyone have any experience with painting over this sort of material?

I'd be concerned of in future paint flaking oof and making unsitely mess.

I have a similar issue on my cockpit floor where a rubberized antiskid paint had been applied several times. I began to remove it with grinder and it was.nasty so switched to heat and knife. Only removed part of it. Push came to finish color change on topsides and get sailing so painted over knowing Id have to comeback. Well now the deck with full removal looks fine and area where rubber finish was intact has cracks fron expansion contraction through the new finish (System Three 2 part Poly) Be sure the finish you use can match the coefficient of expansion for the non slip or similar issues will probably develop good luck!

I was going to ask the same question.
I am thinking of just giving it a good scrubbing, then applying a slightly thinned down top coat

Look into swimming pool paints. Tough yet flexible.

Second kiwi grip. Seems to go on over anything. Buy their color that most closely matches the existing nonskid on your boat, as kiwi grip is somewhat translucent.
