Paint for Stack?

Hello all,

I hope this is the correct section for my question.

We have a (somewhat rusty) steel exhaust pipe that needs some paint. We have tried zinc primer, but it just peels off. We are thinking of trying Blue Steel primer, but we do not seem to be able to get information about its ability to withstand heat.

Does anyone know if Blue Steel primer can handle heat (after it dries, of course)?

Alternatively, what is a good primer for a steel exhaust pipe? We have a dry exhaust.

Cheers, ....Erik.

Oven paint? rustoleum makes oven paint, but don't know how it would stand up to UV .

A company named Dampney makes high temp commercial paints. They have coatings that can handle 2,500 degrees, but color are limited.

Your friendly local auto parts store should have various types of paint for exhaust headers. Be warned that the variety that is designed for extremely high temperatures sometimes takes a long time to set up.
