Pacific Seacraft 31 Rudder Removal

A friend asked me to help with the rudder removal on his 31' Pacific Seacraft 31 (flat / wineglass stern)
Just wondering how the shoe is attached to the skeg? I haven't seen the boat yet.
He said there are no visible bolts. I assume they are glassed over.

Any help would be appreciated.

I would recommend asking this question on the Pacific Seacraft forum at Sailnet. There are many knowledgeable PS31 owners there.

The Pacific Seacraft 31' rudder has a 1/4" thick "backbone" welded to a 1.9" O.D. stainless steel shaft.
Yet, while the rudder is stressed and constructed to be self-supporting, it is further supported by the skeg which is reinforced with a molded-in structural steel channel. Skeg and rudder are connected at the lower end by a massive manganese bronze gudgeon.
