'Oh Joy' Restoration - 11/24/09

I figured out a way to get the house off finally. We put it on wheels and will roll it forward on the temporary decking so a big forklift can slide it's forks under straps and lift it off and out.

Some new mizzen deck beams.



and side deck beams. I didn't like the fit of some previous ones and redid them.



Still have some locust left.



Waiting to be cut on the new to me gear.



That's a very nice little saw. The table tilts both ways which helps with all of the angles and notches.

I forgot the pic of us test fitting the first rib laminate piece. It's 1/4" thick Locust.

The last picture of you test fitting the rib…. you said it's 1/4"...is that the total laminated thickness or the individual laminent thickness?

Great stuff Charlie.
Are those laminations going in dry, soaked first or steamed?
Have done this with oak, elm and long-leaf pine, but have not worked with locust.
Please keep us up to date, those photos are like a fix

James, the laminate slices are 1/4" each, off of my table saw. The total thickness will be 2".

Blue, the Locust was cut from air dried logs last week. The moisture content is 22-25%, which isn't a problem with Locust. Pieces cut at 3/16th's will bend over 180* to where you can touch the ends together without breaking. Neat stuff.

I wish it was an AC Cobra. It was an '03 Cobra that when I finished modding it, went 11.21 in the quarter and still got 22 MPG on the highway.

I don't know if I would trust them Charlie !! I would go with del on this one. They bear to much of a resemblance to Bluestocking's plates when I pulled the deck off her. Hit the rusty part with a hammer and I would bet you get a "Butterfinger" break.
Bluestocking has a glass hull, but I did a 4 1/2 yr rebuild simmilar to you. Gutted to an empty shell, and built new interior. Saved a lot of the teak moldings and trims for re-use.
Should really scan in all my photos and put them on CF.
If the commute wasn't so long, I would come over and help.

You've got a simple solution to the house problem. Plus this way, theres less chance of it being dropped or someone falling off the boat or into the hull. Better idea all around. Well done.

Unfortunately, it still has to come off so I can scarph in that section of the Portside clamp. The rolling beams just make it easier to get it all the way forward. I'll be posting again later today.
