Not a Sailboat, but Still a Real Challenge for Us

Here is a real challenge. Winaway, a 1924 Schertzer Raised Deck Cruiser in seriously bad condition.
She has issues with sitting on a trailer for far too long which has caused some hogging to Starboard.

and

She also needs about 25 planks replaced.

and

The upper section and wheelhouse are in decent shape.

with the exception of the back wall port side.

The interior isn't too bad.

and the deck is mostly ok.

and

Some of the planking to starboard has plywood screwed over it which leads me to believe we'll be replacing the planking there. The initial plan is to build some framework to attach to the starboard hull so we don't have to put stands under that starboard side. We'll use templates made from the port hull frames (which are not hogged out) to replace the starboard framing. I'm hoping I don't have to pull the house and roll her over to do this.

Re: Not a sailboat but still a real challenge for us.

I'm not a fan of modern power boats at all, but the old ones do have some style to them. This one looks like a real beauty. I'd love to see more photos of her once you get her where you can stand back and get a decent shot of the entire boat. From what you've posted so far, she reminds me of an old Yachting Magazine plan I used to have for a 25foot Motor Sailor named Ben Gunn, without the mast.

What engine does she have in her? What are her dimensions? Looks to be about 30 feet or so.

I wish you well in your efforts.

She looks to be a fine little ship, I am glad that someone has
the vision to see her floating on her lines again....

.... and even more thankful that someone is not me.

Good luck! I hope to see the 'after' pictures showing your future success!

I love the old power boats. I hope the project proves out.

She has a Ford straight six gas engine. She's 34' LOA and about an 8' beam.

Is it one of the old Lake Washington Dreamboats? From what can be seen in the Photo's there is some similarity.

Re: Not a sailboat but still a real challenge for us.

It's Schertzer's version of the Lake Union Dreamboat. The Dreamboats came out in 45' versions and larger. This was built a six months before those came out and is historically significant, being the only surviving example of the 34. I'm not really sure who was first to launch this particular style of motor yacht.

How about a pic of the overall view, so we can get a better idea of the nature of the entire boat's lines? Curious, you know...

Thanks for the post Charlie. That looks like it will be a real creation when it's done.
