Northstar Sonar / Fishfinder Transducer Question

Ok, I've got my Northstar 491 box, transducer, and fairing block. Got the perfect location just aft of where the V starts. What I seem to be a bit thick about is how the damn thing scans forward while facing down? Should it be tilted or block modified to actually be aiming forwards? I know, would have been a great question to ask before I bought it....

What makes you think that it's a forward scanning sonar?
I didn't see any such indication, in my quick scan of the literature.

Fairing blocks require cutting to the deadrise of the hull - Airmar probably make the transducers for Northstar, here is a link to their installation instructions
