new to me boat?

Hi
i have bought a catalina 30 i am lucky to have only discovered minor problems except a bit or deck rot around a stanchion and mybee the leaky windows.

my question is the hull was thought to have been ground down to glass, new gel coat, and interprotect, then a coat of hard paint, then coat of anti fouling paint

my questions are
1. to put a new coat, of anti fouling paint on, should i remove the old one too the hard paint it is chipping and flaking or do i just paint over it,
if i have to remove it how should i do that
2. i am new to boating ,so how should i care for the bottom of this boat
thanks for your input
over time i'm sure i'll have more questions
later

Generally there are two major types of anti-fouling ablative - wears off over time, also called soft, and hard. Applying soft over soft or soft over hard is usually ok. Applying hard over soft is a no go.

If you can find out what they put on last (by name) you will know the answer because most suppliers list their compatibility and preparation needs for each situation on-line.
