Question New Rudder

Hello all.

I'm wondering if anyone knows of a place to have a rudder made. Ours is mounted on the transom, is about 8 feet tall, and has a balsa core for some reason. It is now rotting due to water intrusion and the fiberglass has cracked where both the upper hinge and steering quadrant attach.

Ericson is no longer in business, so it would have to be molded from scratch.

Thanks in advance!

Brian

Thanks! Have you used their services yourself?

Here's a link to a picture showing the bad fiberglass. It's a bit blurry but you can get the idea.

Try these guys:

Newrudders

I have been to their factory in Florida and talked to the manager.

Friendly folks and looks like they know what they are doing.

Yes, I bought one for my former boat, a Hunter 26. Was definitely superior to the original.

make your own its very easy and cheap to use a naca 12 profile for the shape and then glass it, im surprised you can call that thing a rudder it looks more like target practice

I had considered making my own, and I've done a lot of work on my boat (such as repairing the delamination and wood rot in the cabin top), but with a recent addition to the family, I don't have the time to dedicate to building a new one

Hi,
I recently had mine done and can be seen with plenty of photo's on my web site web.mac.com/paulngina
All work done in California. I can give you the name of the "builder" etc if you are interested, otherwise, feel free to take some ideas of how it is done from the photo's
Cheers

Haha, I know what you mean Sean.

One of the guys with the same boat as mine rebuilt his. Here's his site: Ericson Independence 31 If I could carve out the time, I know I could get it done myself, but in the near future it's not looking good. I'll be calling the places suggested in this thread this week.

Paul - I'd love to find out where you had yours done so I can give them a call too.

Thanks all.

Brian
