New overhead Ideas?

Hi Friends,
I've removed the main cabin overheads on our Cambria for the purpose of accessing the under decks to move some hardware. It was finished in formica glued to luan. Removing it was a destructive process due to the large sections and the retainer laths screwed and plugged. 'Looked nice but really, shouldn't it be easier to get to vital areas on a boat?

I'd like to put up something attractive and yet accessible for maintenance without refinishing every time. I wonder what others have done or seen fitted?

Thanks,
Dennis

Re: New overhead Ideas?

The PO of our big boat replaced headliners with what looks to be flat mat Formica or something on thin luan and it is velcroed in place. Some sections I can pull right down to access underneath.

Re: New overhead Ideas?

The way we do it is to decide it into logical size/shape panels to provide access/manageable pcs use 1/16" thick ply coated in epoxy both sides. The glue foam backed vinyl. Then use industrial Velcro or cap screws to attach. You may need to instal fairing strips to the deck underside for this to work but I find this works great. Then when you need access to a area just pull down the panel in that area. We always order extra vinyl in case one gets damaged. Best of luck it'll look great.
