New Galley ideas

Good afternoon all,

My girlfriend and I recently bought a Grampian Classic 31 Ketch. It is a project boat that is going to be a lot of fun restoring. We are completely ripping out the inside and starting with "a blank slate". Currently the stove is on the port side of the companionway and the icebox and sink are on the starboard side. We're thinking about moving the stove over to the starboard side and having "all" of the galley on the starboard side. I would love to see some pictures of smaller galleys from all of you to use for ideas. Any ideas and pics are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Consider that with 'all' of the galley on one side, you may not have space to spread out when actually cooking. Do you have something in mind for the other space?

I'll be watching this thread with interest since I have a similar project in the wings.

We're wanting to move the stove to the starboard side to lengthen the port side settee. I'm 6' 5" and would like to be able to "stretch out" on one of the settees. Our idea is to shorten the starboard settee to 4 1/2 or 5 feet in order to fit everything on that side.

We're thinking possibly something along these lines

hi i recently rebuilt the galley sink,cooker area,nav station and just starting on the toilet/ shower on my 28 ft over all macwester if you like look at my thread that has lots of photos of the rebuild,please pm if you need advice or post on the thread.
the photos of the galley are towards the end of the(very interesting!) thread

Although I am at 30' I might have a bit more beam than you - and my companionway is offset to Starboard.

Not done any serious / extended cooking on her, but like most galleys - a bit more space (especially worktop) would always be nice. I have also pondered a fair bit of "what if I did......", but have accepted that at 30' she is what she is.........I especially did not want to lose either settee berth as seaberths.

The most annoying thing is that bloody half bulkhead!, which makes the saloon table awkward to use from the galley. and as my boat pretty much pre-dated the idea of having a fridge on a boat, their is no real provision for one (albeit a few owners have squeezed a top loader into the corner)....me is settling on a portable that will likely move around the cabin, depending on whether underway or in port. I mention it, as even if a fridge / freezer not on the agenda at the moment might make sense to build in a provision for one if you are doing some serious remodeling.

To get your extra berth length, what about a trotter box on the port berth?.....and keep the existing layout, maybe with a folding shelf on the edge of the kitchen sink "unit" as extra workspace?

We've got almost exactlly what you have in this picture, I would kill for the counter space you've got in your original galley. A place to knead dough and the like.

David Old Jersey - In your picture is the round fixture on the ceiling an exhaust fan? I've got some of those and need to find a new one like it.

That's a sister ship, but am pretty sure it is - as it is stuck on / in a vent. Unfortunately the pic was ripped from the internet years back, so I don't know which Seadog or Owner to ask about it .

this is very simmilar to the cape dory 33 galley layout,only reversed.and with a much larger fridge compartment next to the chart table,very ergonomical and easy to use galley.

This is an idea we're also tossing around. Right now just trying to see what's out there, still have some time before we get to this project. There's a chance we may leave the layout the way it is, we may add a trotter box to the port berth, we may move everything to starboard, then again we may just hired Emril to go all the cooking on board . At this point in the game we're just gathering ideas.
