Need Gasket material- Bomar 8512R Portlights?

Does anyone have a source for gasket material for Bomar 8512R portlights (open in)?

The gasket I'm looking for is what the Lens presses against to seal out water.

....other than Pompanette (who doesn't know which gasket is needed).

Here's what the gasket looks like;

Contact Bob Touton at Bomar: btouton@pompanette.com

He has been there throughout the old models and has found us replacement hinges, handles and gaskets for all of our 1998 hatches and portlights.

Pompanette was very helpful when I needed gaskets for Bomar deck hatches.

Pompanette is your best bet. If that fails you might want to try a car parts store. I've walked into NAPA, had the clerk look at a gasket from my Tanzer 22, thumb through a paper catalog of rubber gasket profiles, and order me what I needed.

Google "automotive rubber gaskets" and look at a couple of the catalogs to see what sort of thing is out there, but a good parts man is much faster.

Pompanette doesn't recognize the gasket in the picture- which is from one of their portlights.

I'll contact Mr. Touton- hopefully he'll have the answer as the soul I spoke with didn't.

I've been down the "search the web" routine for finding a replacement gasket to no success.

Maybe the automotive store route will work? Never thought of that one.

Maybe Bob will know.

Thanks folks.

I talked with him but he doesn't recognize the gasket that's on our 8512r's. The gasket is original and not a replacement.

Bomar sent a sample of the supposed replacement gasket for that 8512r's but it certainly doesn't match or fit.

Re: Need Gasket material- Bomar 8512R Portlights?

After too many hours of research on my part and conversation with Pompanette and extensive detailed photos to them they sold me the wrong gasket material in the amount of around $120 for 12 feet of it.

No one at Pompanette knew which gasket material was required.

Later they said the gasket material specific to my Bomar portlight could be purchased in 1,000 foot lots by them from the manufacturer (Pompanette doesn't make the gasket).

I returned the remaining amount of gasket to Pompanette and will receive a credit of....$62. That's pathetic considering they advised and sold the wrong product.

It's no surprise why many mariners are installing New Found Metals ports!
