Need Canvas help!

Hey yall just looking for a good canvas person. We want an isinglass enclosure for our cockpit. The previous owner had a full bug/sun enclosure already made so the zippers and snaps are already there. I would assume a canvas fabricator could just copy the existing panels. I'm in Charleston SC and none of the local vendors can help me out before March and it's cold here. Any thoughts suggestions would be appreciated.

Re: Need Canvas help!

In my experience it's extremely important to work with someone local for most canvas projects, certainly for an enclosure. They need to measure and make templates, then fabricate, install, then make adjustments. It's not unheard of for them to make more than one trip to the boat for adjustments.

For simpler projects they can work off of old canvas, but you're asking for trouble with a full enclosure.

I'd suck it up until March and work with someone local.

Re: Need Canvas help!

When I designed and constructed my custom canvas enclosure I made all new patterns so that the fit would be exact.

Using the old parts for the pattern is problematic, at-best.

A local vendor can pattern and fabricate the parts.

Re: Need Canvas help!

If the old ones fit pretty well, you could find a source on line and send the old ones for fabrication. Many of the ill fitting problems can be adjusted out with frame adjustments. Not to say that working local wouldnt be best. Up here in the North it's pretty slow in the winter for some Canvas people I think. Take pics and general measurements and get prices.
