Muffler now or muffler later

Hi All. Thanks for the help.

Just noticed my old (30+ years) metal muffler with my Volvo MD7A is a little rusty.

Should I replace it now, before it goes back in the water?
Replace it in the next 6 months?
Keep it for years?
Other thoughts?

A few pics.

Re: Muffler now or muffler later

Is that one of those old style jobs that has water around the exhaust pipe inside the muffler? If it is I would change it.

Re: Muffler now or muffler later

Replace now while it is easy to do.
You have no idea what the inside of it is like.
You really don't want to fail one day when you really need the engine.

I once had an exhaust fail inside the boat and I needed the engine running for just a couple of minutes, what harm could the do? Well it took days of cleaning and a month or so of exhaust smell before things were back to normal.
