Microbial fuel cleanup

Anyone with experience using a microbial fuel spill clean-up product? I had to cut into a line the other day and there was no way to not spill some fuel and it would be silly of me to believe that I was able to wipe it all up.

I'm using ALGAE-X Fuel Catalyst AFC-705® " is a concentrated, industrial quality, full spectrum fuel additive and fuel tank cleaning agent for use with diesel, gasoline, biofuels, kerosene and HFO. So far so very good.

That's fuel treatment. I'm looking for spill clean-up.

Wipe up carefully with oil absorbing pads. Leave some of the sausage shape pads in the bilge. Then clean residue with any good degreaser, citrus oil cleaner etc.

No, I have always been evil I guess and used a detergent that emulsify's it.
If you find some kind of "bug" that "eats" it, I'd be interested in hearing if it works.

Wipe up. Put gloves on. Wash with TSP solution. Wipe dry. Finished. Gloves in bin.

Google oil eating microbes and you'll find a bunch of them. I've never heard if they work or not. If you try it, please report your results.

I Googled it before yielding to ask here. Microbes get used a lot in big spills and soil remediation. Lots of suppliers if you want a large amount, but not a lot in the volume I would want. Maybe the question will stay in the light long enough for someone with experience with using microbes to clean-up a spill on the boat to post an answer. But at least I now know there is soap and water in the world

Sorry these are sideways.But this product eats oil.Also makes for a clean smelling bilge.I can't tell you how much you have to buy.But if you can get your hands on it.I can tell from using it for years,it works.

We tried using these in our bilge. The problem is that the bilge needs to have the exact right environment for the bugs to grow, to avoid going into hibernation or just not die as soon as you pour it into the bilge. The bilge water needs to be oxygenated either through agitation or through a bubbler.

Overall, we were not impressed.

We regularly clean our bilge using by draining the last few inches in bilge using a wet/dry vac and disposing of the water properly, assuming its contaminated. Then we wipe the bilge using a long stick using the oil rags, then wash the bilge using orange cleaner - again sucking it out with a wet dry vac and disposing of the solution properly. Then, a new bilge tampon goes in for another year.

The bonus is that we get all extra bits and parts that have fallen into the bilge out.
