mesh screens

Ok, I am at the point where I am putting mosquito screens around the aft deck (sundowners domain) I have been offered a mosquito screen or a finer mesh to also stop midges, sandflies etc.
I plan to cruise in the tropics and with a draft of only 9 inches we will occasionally anchor in close. The downside with the finer mesh is that it allows less breeze to flow through.
Any recommendations.?

I'd go with the mesh so you can have better bug protection. Often, if it is windy enough and late enough (after sunset) you can get by with taking the screens down entirely. Since you'll be in the trade winds, you'll be able to enjoy that wind to help relieve bugs.

BUT... if you are having "sundowners", this is the worst possible time to be outside as the bugs are at their peak around sunset in most areas.

What about putting up the less restrivctive messh as the main screen and then puttingvelcro tabs on so that you can put the finer mesh on when it is required.

Finer mesh will rip easier. There is always a down side. The double layer approach sounds good. You don't always need the fine mesh, but when you do it's important.
