Manual Lofrans Royal Windlass . . . What the . . . !

The thing was working fine until I "fixed" it. Removed a +-7/8" plug from the top thinking it was oil fill and turned out to be a long ss shank protruding down into its guts. Tried to reinsert and it wanted to cross thread. The windlass action works ok without bolt in but jams with it in. Anyone with any experience please advise. Thx much

It's been a long time but when I took ours apart I think that bolt held the top gear in place. Take the gypsy off and then that plate on the side and slide stuff out. Really basic, it's not difficult to disassemble. Order the plastic/nylon bushings for the shaft and replace them while you are in there, they are cheap little things that wear out easily.
