Lunenburg Steering Systems

Does anyone know if the Lunenburg type of steering system is being manufactured by other companies? Or a source for old Lunenburg stock?

We just found out they no longer produce them, they're only making ships' wheels.

Thanks.

Re: Lunenburg Steering Systems

What is a Lunenburg steering system. I live and sailed near there and have not heard that term.

Re: Lunenburg Steering Systems

I assumed that the OP was referring to a worm gear type steering system. It was pretty common on older designed boats before the proliferation of pedestals with pulleys and cables. I've never heard them called that either but I'd be interested to hear what the OP meant. Cheers!

Re: Lunenburg Steering Systems

Edson still makes and sells worm gear steering systems, as well as the geared direct. If you are lookimg for a Lunenberg specific casting/ replacment part you may be able to get ahold of the patterns for one off parts. Contact Andrew at navigator Stove works on orcas island Wa, he is or was using some of there patterens for some of his stoves, will probably know who to talk to. Small foundries will usually do a poor for a reasonabel price provided you have the patterns. Pete Langly at PT Foundry in Port townsend wa. has a massive amount of patters as well and is a good resource.
