It's hard to believe jet airplanes fly as well, but when you get right down to the physics off it, it makes sense.

Still have to side with your fiance. I'm too stingy to pay for the article but this article in "Nature" says 5,000 degrees Kelvin, again about 10,000F. Here's a link to a YouTube clip of a snapping shrimp doing what it does. I have new respect for these critters.

I was just hanging out on the boat in the marina a few weeks ago, I started hearing a similar sound. I had read about the sea life before and logically I knew that's most likely what it was, but it still worried me a bit, still it's been several weeks and the boat hasn't sunk yet.

We have White Croakers right here on the SF Bay. I can't say I have heard any but I have netted plenty doing fish studies.

In the Chesapeake, at certain times of the year, the rockfish (young) will literally bounce of the side of your hull. Usually they are being chased or are feeding.Sounds like an underwater hammer.

We call it phospherescence. Minute plankton like creatures. Same ones that cause the glow in the dark effect........... now I'm always going to think of rice bubbles LOL.

first ya gota have five beers.....then wait awhile then...... I did it one very dark night in a small bay with about 10 other boats (that i didnt know). A kid yelled out from somwhere, "that is so cool"..) Next thing there was ....welll...a light show ..as a large amount of slightly happy guys got over any kind of inhabition, that is until a female voice yelled out "Im goin ta have a go too" !! ....you can guess the rest..

..sorry I lowered the tone of the post but foxy did start it.... : ) ...what the hell, no im not, us aussies have to keep our end up. But cruisingcat, I couldnt agree more. Bill fish breaching, or even insect catching small fish flying across the surface. To think, (and I have seen it many times) that under those conditions there are still people who are sitting below watching their DVDs for the 18th time.
