We had the "string" on our Leopard 40 snap the other day while raising the dink.

After moving the dink we winched the davit up and locked it using a genoa sheet.

The winch motor as you probably know is behind the ceiling panel with 7 screws. if you need to remove it.

BTW, I don't know what you are using, but we replaced our "string" with dyneema.

thanks... dyneema may be a good option. I'm thinking it's the switch... it goes down, but up doesn't engage...

More likely a relay I would suspect. I bet it has an up and a down relay.
Hopefully they are the common 30 amp automotive relay.
If you find the relay box assuming there is one, you should be able to swap the relays and get it to come up.

It could also be like a windlass relay, one proprietary box.

Sorry, but I am not familiar at all with leopard, but it’s unlikely that the system doesn’t have relays, and they fail more often that the switch.
