LED Spreader Light Refit

My combination steaming/foredeck light is fried and I'd like to take the opportunity to go to dual LED floodlights on the lower spreaders. There seem to be a huge array of options and prices are all over the place. My ideal setup would have low and high settings - the low for day to day use like dinghy boarding, anchor watches, etc. and the high for emergency situations like the anchor dragging at 3 am. In any case, I'm curious what people are using and what has worked well?

Marinebeam Replacement LED bulbs for your existing boat fixtures

I installed three on each mast, two spreader flood looking down and one forward spot. You can walk the deck and read a newspaper. PWM controls work at any DC power you might have. 800 lumens & 10 watts each. I really like them. They have added more options since we bought. These replaced 4 sealed beam 4.5-inch spots of 200 lumens @ 50 watts.

I have several of my LED conversion pictures here.

LEDwholesalers 10.5 Watt LED Waterpoof Outdoor Security Floodlight 10-30 Volt DC, FL-10W - Flood Lighting - Amazon.com

This is mounted to the bottom of my mast mounted radar and performs awesome. Cheap and hasn't corroded in the year since I mounted it

Re: LED Spreader Light Refit

I have thought about doing some of the superbrightled lights. Has anybody had any experience with their light bars or spotlights?
I have only ever used some of their bare led's and a few of their bulbs. Never in a marine environment yet.

Go to Walmart and get the LED driving lights for $35. They work great

Re: LED Spreader Light Refit

Thanks all! I appreciate all the suggestions. The prices of some of these solutions are appealing but I don't want to buy on price alone. I'd be willing to spend a little more if doing so meant I wouldn't have to mess with the spreader lights for 5-10 years.

Re: LED Spreader Light Refit

I bought the Amazon one, while I concur with what you say, you don't always get what you pay for anymore, seems a lot of "marine" hardware is just re-boxed off the shelf equipment, only thing marine about it is the price.

For $15 including shipping, I'll take a gamble

Re: LED Spreader Light Refit

We've been selling a lot of these to the sportfishing crowd. They use them for cockpit lighting. No returns yet, that's a good sign.

This one is similar but not as bright.

Re: LED Spreader Light Refit

Do these LED floodlights flicker if you dim them way down with a controller?

The security recommendation from the attack at Union Island last year was to have a super bright 'blinder' LED floodlights in the cockpit. I've been meaning to add a pair of these, but we also need cockpit lights for mellow dinner lighting. What do you guys think of using these floodlights for both purposes -- turned all the way up as security lights, and all the way down for hanging out in the cockpit? Or do they flicker if you turn them all the way down?

Our LED light strips flicker at the dimmest setting. I don't know if this is a bad controller or just what you can expect with dimming LEDs.

Re: LED Spreader Light Refit

I don't know what happens if you dim them. I sent a note to the manufacturer asking that. I'll let you know what they say.

Here is a link to the manufacturers website; Spreader Light @ http://tacomarine.com

Take a look at the one they call the Blaster.
