Leaky Edson Steering Binnacle

With all the rain we are having in south texas, I have drips coming thu the cockpit where the binnacle is bolted down.

Any Idea of the best way to make this tight without removing the steering cables etc...
Its not a large drip, but enough, has to be sealed.

Thanks.
Bob

release or loosen cables from/on quadrant undo bolts, clean mating surfaces and bolts and holes reseal then put back together. there is no short cut to do it right

Would there be any harm in just removing the bolts and filling the holes with sealant and then replacing the bolts. There doesn't seem to be a danger assuming the holes in the floor are sealed and the water can't run into the core of the floor. If it stops the leak you solved the problem and if it doesn't you take the thing off and seal the entire binnacle. While not as likely to fix the problem it is easy to check after you do it to see if it worked.

You need to determine where the leak is actually coming from. It maybe from the base where it hits the sole, or if you have wires going up through the pedestal guard it may be coming from there. It is hard to get a good seal on the guard, as it is continually being moved back and forth.

If at the base, you need to build a small coffer under the ped.

I'm thinking of removeing the bolts, pulling the base up, putting in some sealant, then rebedding the bolts and seeing if that helps. Its not a big leak, and if wan't for the deluge we have had in the last few weeks never would have noticed it...

fish man what you mean by coffer?
